On the morning of November 10th, 2014 I had the honor of photographing Marverick Anthony Van Sturgill's entrance into this world. This was an extra special shoot for me for several reasons including but not limited to the fact that Maverick was born exactly one day prior to my oldest daughters birthday and at the very same hospital I had both of my children. His momma is also one of my favorite momma friends on earth. Marci Sturgill is one of the most beautiful women I have the pleasure of knowing and calling my friend.
Walking the halls of labor and delivery at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek I was flooded with the memories of my own children's births. There is so much about the birth of a child that cannot be expressed by words. There is so much hope and fear and joy and pain. Maverick was born just after 8am on Monday November 10th, 2014, weighing in at 8lbs and 13.5oz, and made his debut via a C-section. Child birth by any means is an extraordinary miracle to witness. But seeing first hand and up close and personal a caesarian birth makes me marvel at the things doctors and nurses do day in and day out. And that's exactly what I did all morning...marvel. Not only was I overwhelmed by the science of modern medicine, there were these moments of tremendous tenderness and love that I could literally feel and see from the proud papa, Mavericks dad, Lumpy Sturgill. If you know Lumpy, you know he's a sort of a big giant, hilarious, tough, tattooed, business man, dude. But he drips with love and care when it comes to his beautiful wife Marci and their now two sons. It was a pleasure to witness so much love.
I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to share in this monumental event for the Sturgill family and I hope that I was able to capture all that this day encompassed for them.
